Ryan Vogelsong - Minor League Baseball Cards

Ryan Vogelsong is one of the pleasant surprises of the 2011 major league season, helping to lead the Giants to a contending position in the National League West.

Ryan was selected in the 5th round of the 1998 Draft. Ryan’s first year was at Salem Keizer and he had a 6-1 record (1.77 ERA) before being promoted to San Jose.

Ryan then was on a journey through the minor league system with a few stints in the majors:

1999 in San Jose and Shreveport
2000 In Shreveport, Giants for 4 games
2001 in Fresno and Nashville, Giants and Pirates
2002 in Lynchburg and Altoona
2003 in Nashville, Pirates
2004 Pirates
2005 Pirates
2006 Pirates
2006 in Indianapolis
2007, 2008, and 2009 in Japan
2010 in Salt Lake City and Lehigh Valley
2011 in Fresno

Ryan’s minor league record was 55-64 with a 4.06 ERA. Prior to 2011, Ryan’s major league record was 10-22 with an ERA above 4.00.

Not exactly a promising prospect. But on August 5, 2011, Ryan had a 9-1 record with a 2.19 ERA.

An outstanding performance fueled by Perseverance and Determination.

Ryan’s Minor League Baseball cards include:

1998 Salem-Keizer (pictured)
1999 San Jose (pictured)
2000 Shreveport
2001 Fresno
2003 Nashville
2003 Pacific Coast League Top Prospect
2010 Lehigh Valley (pictured)

Now that Ryan is a leader on the Giant’s pitching staff (along with Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum), he has the prospect of being a long term contributor. An investment in his Minor League Baseball Cards might be wise.

In addition, Ryan has cards in the 2000 and 2001 Bowman Draft Picks sets that are proving to be highly sought after cards.

Paul Goldschmidt – Minor League Baseball Cards

Paul Goldschmidt, a top prospect of the Arizona Diamondbacks, has a very promising future as a Major League first baseman. He was selected in the 8th round of the 2009 Draft.

In 2009, at the Missoula Osprey, a short season rookie team, Paul played in 74 games hit for an average of .334 and had 18 home runs.

In 2010, Paul was promoted to the Visalia Oaks, and played in 138 games, hit for an average of .314 with 35 home runs. Paul was named as California League Rookie-of-the-Year.

In 2011 Paul was promoted to the Mobile Bay Bears and in 99 games, hit for an average of .306 with 30 home runs.

These statistics resulted in a promotion to the Arizona Diamondbacks on 8/1/2011. The major criticism against Paul has been the propensity to strike out.

On August 1, 2011, Paul faced Matt Cain, got 1 hit in 4 AB, and struck out once.

On August 2, Paul was 1 for 3 against Tim Linceum with 1 Strikeout. The hit was a home run in the 5th inning which led the Diamondbacks to an important victory.

On August 3, Paul faced Ryan Vogelsong, one of the 2011 pitchers with an outstanding record, went 0 for 3 with 2 strikeouts.

Paul has now been introduced to the major leagues and should contribute as the Diamondbacks attempt to win the National League pennant.

Because of his meteoric rise through the minor league system, Paul’s Minor League cards are limited.

Paul has a 2010 Visalia card which we have not yet scanned.

In 2011, Paul appears in the Southern League All Star set (scan attached)

It is expected that Paul’s cards will be in the 2011 Southern League Top Prospect set and in the 2011 Mobile Bay Bears set. When those are received this article will be updated.
